Message from His Excellency, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Singapore

His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Ishikawa

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Singapore

It is with great pleasure that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Japanese Cultural Society Singapore (JCS) on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.

Since its establishment in 1964, two years before the inception of Japan-Singapore diplomatic relations, JCS has long been a beacon of Japanese language education and bilateral cultural exchange in Singapore. The constant dedication and commitment of its founders and their successive leaders have been a driving force for JCS to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between Singapore and Japan through the introduction and promotion of Japanese culture and tradition.

Today, whenever I watch JCS’s cultural performances, whether it is Suwa Daiko drumming or a folk song choir, I am impressed by the level of performance from the members. It is a privilege and a delight for my Embassy to have such good friends like JCS, who shares with us a deep understanding of various aspects of Japanese culture and tradition.

The Diamond Jubilee milestone of JCS is significant. The maturity of its wonderful activities today is a testament to the enduring legacy and achievements of the organisation, as well as its profound impact on generations of people who have been associated with its programmes and initiatives.

Let me take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to President Lai Ah Keow and other past and current leaders of JCS, as well as all its staff and members, for their dedication to promoting Japanese culture and strengthening the bonds between our two countries.

In 2026, the diplomatic relations of our two countries will mark its 60th anniversary. I sincerely and surely hope that JCS continues to thrive and evolve, serving as a bridge between Singapore and Japan, beyond this 60th anniversary and for many more years to come. May the Diamond Jubilee celebrations be a joyous and memorable tribute to the remarkable achievements of JCS!
