Message from President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Singapore

Mr. Daijiro Eguchi

President
Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Singapore

On behalf of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) Singapore, we are delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to the Japanese Cultural Society (JCS) Singapore on its remarkable 60th anniversary. This significant milestone stands as a testament to your unwavering commitment and dedication to promoting the learning of Japanese language and appreciation of the Japanese culture in Singapore.

As we reflect on JCS’s journey, it fills us with admiration to learn about the visionary founding members who recognized the profound connection between language and culture. Today, as we celebrate your exceptional diamond anniversary, we earnestly commend JCS for its unparalleled contributions to deepening of the Japanese cultural understanding and linguistic proficiency among many Singaporeans.

JCCI has been privileged to co-organise the annual Japanese Speech Contest with JCS, the Japan Creative Centre (JCC) of The Japan Embassy in Singapore, the Japanese Association Singapore (JAS) and the Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS) for the past years. We noted that the contest was initially developed in 1968 with only the Adult Category. The increase in popularity of studying Japanese as a third language prompted JAS to organize a Students’ Eloquence Contest in 1955. These two contests were then combined in 1996 to form the Japanese Speech Contest and the format has been retained to date.

JCS’s impact extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. Through the annual JCS Japanese Cultural Festival that JCCI Singapore Foundation is honoured to be one of the proud sponsors, we see Singaporeans from all walks of lives enjoying the festival with exciting Japanese cultural programmes and activities put together by JCS. Held for more than 50 years, the annual festival has been promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Singapore, bringing the relationship between these two nations even closer.

Your dedication to the Japanese language education in Singapore with excellence and innovation, along with your steadfast efforts on promoting the Japanese cultural exchange, exemplifies the spirit of cooperation and friendship between our nations. As partners in promoting bilateral relations and cultural understanding between Japan and Singapore, we look forward to the continued collaboration and shared success in the years ahead.

Congratulations again on this momentous occasion. May JCS continue to inspire future generations in Singapore, with its commitment to excellence and passion for Japanese language and culture.
